Westcliff High School for Girls, U.K. (July 2003)

Fifteen girls from this Essex school involved themselves in two community projects. In the mornings, they taught English in Thaton School and in the afternoon worked on the organic farm. This included laying a water pipe from our water wheel to our (organic) rice fields, and then, when the water started to flow, getting their shoes and socks off to plant the rice. The results of their efforts can be seen with the rich green rice growing – about a month before harvest time.
